Data Protection professionals are required to be knowledgeable and well-versed in the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) from the operations perspective.

This course lays the practical foundation and competencies necessary in the new era of compliance in personal data protection. It covers the 7 principles of Malaysia's PDPA from an operational and information life cycle perspective

Participants will learn best practices and identify the risks for complying with the PDPA as well as enforcement cases from the Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP).

Benjamin Shepherdson

Benjamin Shepherdson 
CIPM, GRCP

Benjamin is a recognized authority in data protection and risk management with over 17 years of experience across diverse sectors, including banking, healthcare, aviation, edtech and telco. As an Adjunct Lecturer at the Singapore Management University (SMU) Academy, he specializes in breaking down complex regulatory frameworks into actionable business strategies. Benjamin has a proven track record of helping multinational corporations and SMEs navigate the complexities of digitalization while maintaining the "core value of trust". He is a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and a Certified Governance, Risk, and Compliance Professional (GRCP), known for his ability to drive operational resilience and sustainable financial performance.

 

Mohammad Said Bin Salleh

Said is a dynamic training professional with over 10 years of training experience. He has successfully trained individuals on the topics of data analytics, data visualization,service excellence, data protection and risk management. 

Ever since obtaining his Advanced Diploma in Data Protection from Singapore Management University Academy in 2022, he has provided trainings in Singapore on the Personal Data Protection Act. Said’ s knowledge and sharing of real life experiences has helped participants to learn and understand that it is important to know how to be operationally compliant with the data protection laws.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of the 7 principles of Malaysia's PDPA
  • Understand how to operationalise the obligations
  • Learn from local and global enforcement cases of the security gaps to be mindful of in your own organisation


Assessment

There will be a course assessment based on lecture, classroom exercises and case studies.

Participants are required to attain a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the associated assessment in order to receive a digital Certificate of Completion issued by Data Protection Excellence DPEX) Network.

Note:
For organisations intending to claim under HRD Corp, please note the following requirements:

  • Each participant must be a Malaysian citizen.
  • Each participant must fulfil a minimum attendance of 75% for the entire workshop (i.e. must have a minimum of 0.75 day) to be able to claim under HRD Corp funding.
    *If the participant does not meet the minimum requirement, HRDCorp will not process the claim and the organisation will then have to pay to Straits Interactive the full training fees of RM 1,750 for each participant.

If no seats are available for the applied date, you will be notified immediately and given an alternative date. Straits Interactive reserves the right to change the course schedules, programmes and content without prior notice. We also reserve the right to cancel courses due to unforeseen circumstances.


CANCELLATION

Requests for withdrawal or postponement must be made in writing to Straits Interactive. Refunds arising from course withdrawal/deferment will be subjected to the following terms:

More than 2 weeks before course commencement: Full refund.
Less than 2 weeks before course commencement: 50% refund.
On or after course commencement: No refund
