Police and data protection authorities warn that unchecked AI use could compromise criminal investigations, client data and public trust, while stressing its potential benefits. Criminals in England and Wales could wrongly walk free if police fail to introduce proper safeguards for artificial intelligence (AI), the head of the police watchdog has warned, as a Guernsey data protection authority separately urged businesses to ensure AI use is safe. The warnings underline growing concerns over AI-generated errors, data security and accountability as police forces and organizations increasingly adopt the technology.
