The Philippines' biggest opportunity in artificial intelligence lies in investing in its people, which could drive long-term economic growth, according to Globe Telecom Inc. on Friday. "For decades, the Philippines has always been known for our people... it stems from the fact that our people are capable, collaborative, probably adaptable as well," Derick Omar Adil, Globe head of AI and data privacy and governance, said during the opening day of the Philippine Blockchain Week 2026. "So that's why I see AI as a chance for us to amplify that talent and skill, which we've never seen before," he added. Mr. Adil said that while one-third of jobs in the country are exposed to artificial intelligence, citing data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the remaining two-thirds -- or around 60% of jobs -- can be complemented by AI.
