BIZ BUZZ: Pagcor bets on app to curb illegal gambling

MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) is upping the ante against illegal online gambling, giving players a new way to tell which sites are playing a fair hand. In its latest bet on technology, Pagcor said it was developing a mobile app that could be in players' hands as early as December. The app will let users check whether an online gambling platform has Pagcor's stamp of approval -- giving them a quick way to separate licensed operators from the rogue sites lurking online. "This platform will give players a reliable way to verify which online gaming platforms are licensed by Pagcor. We want the public to make informed choices and avoid falling prey to illegal operators," Pagcor Chair and CEO Alejandro Tengco said.
