Central banks must consider AI risks and opportunities, BSP says

CENTRAL BANKS in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) should consider artificial intelligence (AI) when shaping monetary policy while weighing its risks and benefits, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said. In a statement released late on Wednesday, the BSP said central banks in the region must brace for both the risks and advantages of AI as they carry out their price and financial stability mandates. "Central banks must be ready for both opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence brings as they pursue their mandates in price and financial stability," it said. The central bank said AI could help economies improve productivity, drive innovation, and broaden financial inclusion.
