Over 70 groups urge Meta to scrap "Name Tag" feature, warn of surveillance risks Meta is facing sharp criticism from civil rights groups over reported plans to add facial recognition to its smart glasses, a move that critics say could seriously damage privacy and public safety. More than 70 advocacy organisations, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Fight for the Future, have signed an open letter urging the company to abandon the feature, internally referred to as "Name Tag". Growing Civil Backlash The groups argued that Mark Zuckerberg's Meta cannot be trusted to deploy such technology responsibly. They are now calling for the plan to be scrapped entirely.
