Proofpoint reports rapid escalation in TA4922 campaigns, featuring AI-assisted malware development, credential theft and cross-platform social engineering tactics. A suspected China-linked cybercrime group known as TA4922 has dramatically expanded its operations beyond East Asia, targeting organizations across Europe and Africa while rapidly broadening its malware toolkit, according to a new report from cybersecurity firm Proofpoint. Researchers say the financially motivated threat actor has increased the pace of its campaigns since March 2026, deploying a growing range of malware families and social engineering techniques aimed at gaining access to corporate networks for fraud, data theft, access resale and long-term persistence.
