NBTC charts new telecom growth path

Thailand's telecom sector is entering a new growth cycle, driven by data, artificial intelligence (AI) and infrastructure investment. To regulate the sector, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has issued its top priorities for 2026: promoting affordable mobile phone call tariffs, infrastructure optimisation, spectrum management, AI governance frameworks, and measures to encourage green energy adoption in data centres. Trairat Viriyasirikul, acting secretary-general of the NBTC, said the regulator is developing a sophisticated regulatory framework to harmonise rapid technological growth with public interest and environmental sustainability, as Thailand pivots towards becoming a regional digital hub.
